Created and established in 2006 by designer Tshepo Mafokwane after completing a B-tech in Fashion Design and manufacturing in TUT, Sober Design House was created. It is a brand that was borne out of an unrelenting desire to explore her own creative freedom. This fast tracked endeavors to run an in-house production plant in 2006, where a carefully hand-selected incredibly skilled group of individuals to produce luxurious quality clothing and supply boutiques for retail. Sober is a design house in the true sense of the word, all merchandise is made in-house.

Why “Sober”? The word “Sober” is the best way to describe my state of mind at the point when she decided to start her own brand. After working in corporate, having run a bespoke business where she created custom designs for individuals; She felt that she had inebriated her true purpose as a designer.
“I felt a need to find a more earnest way to practice and refine my craft, it was a “sobering” experience to take back control, and only design what I liked. “Sober” was my freedom and I wanted to share the experience, it has been everything worth fighting for” Tshepo explains.
Within the 16 years span in the industry, “Sober” was retailed in over 16 boutiques in and around South Africa and online.
